Why I Feel Like 'That Elephant'
Lying on my bed this past sunday...staring at the ceiling...thinking about several stuff...and listening to LIL Wayne's "I'm Me". When the question popped into my head, "who do men (people) say you are?"...For some unknown reason, that question asked by Jesus Christ in the scriptures to his disciples was ringing in my head. It was as though the Spiritual Me was trying to make a point to the Carnal Me...but i digress.
"Victory, who do people say you are?"
After some thought...some very deep thought...triggered by the bottle of ZOBO i just drank, i figured: I am like the legendary Elephant...that was felt by the blind men. I am known by several names...and several descriptions...to several people...depending on part of me that was perceived by them.
THE STORY
Once upon a time, there lived six blind men in a village. One day the villagers told them, "Hey, there is an elephant in the village today."
They had no idea what an elephant is. They decided, "Even though we would
not be able to see it, let us go and feel it anyway." All of them went where the
elephant was. Everyone of them touched the elephant.
"Hey, the elephant is a pillar," said the first man who touched his leg.
"Oh, no! it is like a rope," said the second man who touched the tail.
"Oh, no! it is like a thick branch of a tree," said the third man who touched the trunk of the elephant.
"It is like a big hand fan" said the fourth man who touched the ear of the elephant.
"It is like a huge wall," said the fifth man who touched the belly of the elephant.
"It is like a solid pipe," Said the sixth man who touched the tusk of the elephant.
They began to argue about the elephant and everyone of them insisted that he was right. It looked like they were getting agitated. A wise man was passing by and he saw this. He stopped and asked them, "What is the matter?" They said, "We cannot agree to what the elephant is like."
Each one of them told what he thought the elephant was like. The wise man calmly explained to them, "All of you are right. The reason every one of you is telling it differently
because each one of you touched the different part of the elephant
Now, it is not just me, it is the same for all of us. Come to think of it, whoever you are, several people will always have several varying opinions of thee...and it all depends on the part of you that was felt OR has been felt.
To one, you may be the sweetest human on earth, To another, you may be the worst being to walk the surface of the earth. It all lies NOT on you...majorly, but on their perception.
UNDERSTAND:
People build opinions based on what they hear..,or think they see. They misjudge your actions, condemn your changes, they do not understand who you really are...because they cannot really see...so what do they do? They create their own definition of you.
People will always have varying opinions of you.
MY POiNT:
People's opinions of you don't really always matter, the most important ish is how you see yourself... How you define yourself.
And like I said one time:
"When writing a definition of yourself, let no oneone else hold the pen."
